Love in the Time of Genocide

by Pregs Govender

The inaugural Festival of Compassion, hosted by the Global Compassion Coalition, took place from 10–12 September 2025 in Cape Town, South Africa, bringing together global thought leaders, activists, and practitioners to explore compassion as a radical, embodied force for societal transformation.

In her keynote, author, activist, and former MP Pregs Govender reflects on love as a revolutionary force for justice, dignity, and courage. Her most recent book, Love and Courage: A Story of Insubordination, continues her lifelong commitment to advancing equality and human rights.

“Every single human being is born full of worth and value, simply for being human. Human rights, like humans, are indivisible; we are whole human beings. Dignity is humanity’s, individual and collective, birthright.” – Pregs Govender

Watch the full keynote and be inspired to turn love into a guiding force for personal and collective transformation.
